Asia's First Platelet donation & Awareness drive and Launch of Live savers club, Mumbai, 2007

In October, 2007, DFY teamed up with 'Think Foundation' to launch a noble initiative called the Lifesavers Club. This club is a network of willing donors and responsible citizens who can be easily reached in times of crisis. The initiative was such a success that in a span of 45-days, the platelet donation at KEM Hospital was doubled. The basic aim of this club is to rope in a decent number of donors that could help in taming the shortage of donors in Mumbai city to some respectable level. Each donor was given a bar-coded donor card that has information such as their name, age, date of birth, blood group and the last recorded donation by the cardholder. This was first of its kind of activity in Asia and it enables the best use of the platelet aphaeresis machine that had been donated to KEM hospital by the SBTC in December 2006. The organization plans to extend the sphere of this club to other metropolitan cities of the country such as New Delhi, Calcutta and Bangalore.
